Alexandra Geczi is One to Watch
By Mey Ly

Creative.  Passionate.  Hardworking.  These are the words that Alexandra Geczi, whom many know as Alex, used to describe her husband, Ed, when she was asked about some of the inspirational people in her life.  Coincidently, these words also describe a few of the very characteristics that Alex exemplifies as DAYL’s One to Watch.

Despite a busy family law and wills and probate practice as a solo practitioner at the Law Office of Alexandra M. Geczi, Alex was instrumental in the planning and execution of the 2007 Leadership Class’s project, DAYLympics on the Logistics Committee.  Through DAYLympics, a field day for young adults, comprising of dodge ball, relay races and tug of war, the 2007 Leadership Class raised over $7,000 for school supplies for teachers in DISD.  This year, Alex is a co-chair of DAYL’s Elder Law Committee.  The committee has presented a number of programs benefiting the elderly, including senior visits, wills clinics and a toiletries drive.

In addition to her involvement with DAYL, Alex has been recognized by the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program for her countless hours of pro bono service to those citizens who often need representation the most.  She has also served the community through providing pro bono assistance through the Central Dallas Ministries and as a participant in the Dallas Bar Association’s LegalLines.  Alex is also a member of the Annette Stewart Inn of Court, a board member of the Collin County Young Lawyers Association, and the Dallas Bar Association’s Family Law Section, where she helped put together DVAP’s Family Law Nuts & Bolts.

Where does she find the inspiration to serve?  Perhaps it’s her family.  Maybe it’s because Alex was able to experience the American Dream firsthand when her parents immigrated to the US from Czechoslovakia with nothing to raise two daughters: Alex and Alex’s sister, Veronica, an electrical engineer by day and aspiring cooking show host by night (check out www.IdRatherBeCooking.com!).

Maybe it’s her thirst and passion for learning and experiencing new things.  After all, somehow this Zoology major from University of Texas found her calling at Mercer University, Walter F. George School of Law.  Not to mention, her favorite thing about DAYL is that there are so many activities that everyone can find something that they’re passionate about.

When asked about where she wants to be five years from now, Alex responds: “Workin’ it,” without skipping a beat.

Little does Alex know that she has been “workin’ it” all along, and we can only expect greater things.
