DALLAS ASSOCIATION OF YOUNG LAWYERS
2014 SUMMER JUDICIAL INTERN PROGRAM

The Dallas Association of Young Lawyers invites first and second year law students to apply for next summer’s DAYL Judicial Intern Program. Judges from Dallas-area civil, criminal, probate, family, and appellate courts will be participating.

Applicants must have completed first-year civil procedure and legal writing courses before June 2014. Courses in evidence and criminal or appellate procedure are helpful but not required.

Internship selections will be made by the participating judges starting in March. Applicants must be willing to commit to a six-week, full-time voluntary internship during the summer months and are expected to honor any commitments made to the judges. The internship is unpaid, and individual schedules will be determined by the judges.

Applicants selected to participate in the program must attend a mandatory orientation taught by participating judges. The exact location and time of the orientation will be provided at a later date; however, it is anticipated that the orientation will take place late March/early April. Applicants seeking an accommodation must notify Cherie Harris at  or Chris Simmons.

Applicants must submit their application online at: https://adobeformscentral.com/?f=SY-v5BiXSBuWjhtJFXd65w.

In addition to providing certain basic information, applicants are asked to list: (a) in order of preference, three types of courts where the applicant would prefer to work (civil, criminal, probate, family, or appellate courts); and (b) the dates during the summer when the applicant is available.

Applicants must attach the following materials to the online application:

  1. In 250 words or less, a personal statement explaining why the applicant is interested in the program. NOTE: Applicants should include their name on the personal statement;
  2. One copy of the applicant’s one-page resume;
  3. One copy of the applicant’s law school transcript, if available; and
  4. Payment to “Dallas Association of Young Lawyers” in the amount of $15.00” (payment instructions are also located at the above web address).
