Most attorneys are aware of the grim statistics – “lawyers are 3.6 times more likely to suffer from depression than non-lawyers”1 and “lawyers rank fourth in proportion of suicides by profession.”2 Unfortunately, Dallas’ young lawyer community is not immune from these issues. In recognition of National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, DAYL is hosting a panel discussion at noon on Tuesday, September 20th at the Belo Mansion to raise awareness through dialogue and education.

Two DAYL members will share their personal stories related to suicide. In addition, Bree Buchanan, Director of the Texas Lawyers Assistance Program (TLAP), will discuss resources available to young lawyers regarding suicide and Dr. Candice Conner will educate young lawyers on how to recognize the warning signs of suicide and find effective ways to help colleagues who may be at risk.  Attendees will receive one-hour of ethics CLE credit. Please join us in our efforts to eliminate the stigma associated with suicide as we encourage more lawyers to seek help.
