DAYL is excited to announce Ashley Miller is the November One to Watch!
As you know, when the DAYL selects a member as the One to Watch, this recognition is not bestowed lightly. With approximately 2500 members, and only twelve months in a year, the One to Watch spotlight is given to less than 1% of its members. As a result, members selected for this recognition are individuals who set themselves apart from an already extraordinary group of people. Ashley Miller has proven time and time again that she is the type of lawyer (and leader) who deserves the One to Watch spotlight.
Ashley received dual Bachelor of Science degrees in political science and psychology with a minor in anthropology from the University of Utah and her J.D. from SMU Dedman School of Law. Her specialty is health law. Before going in-house, Ashley worked at Mayer LLP and Weaver, Johnston, & Nelson PLLC, practicing medical malpractice defense and healthcare law. In May, Ashley went in-house for one of the most high-profile and influential of medical schools, research universities, and medical centers, The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. In this role, she manages medical claims and litigation matters, assists in the development of policies and procedures across academic, clinical, research, and business functions, and develops risk mitigation strategies related to patient care, credentialing, accreditation, and medical staff matters. Over the past year, I witnessed first-hand how UT Southwestern hires the best of the best, and Ashley is undoubtedly part of that group!
In addition to being a leader to some of the best doctors in the country, Ashley demonstrates she is an exceptional leader outside of the office. Ashley has quickly made herself indispensable to the DAYL through her work on the DAYL Bolton Ball Committee and the 2023 DAYL Leadership Class. For example, in her role for the DAYL Bolton Ball, she single-handedly led the committee’s marketing efforts, elevating the event’s social media presence and using ingenuity to spotlight and support new and returning sponsors. Ashley is also involved in the DWLA and DBA, participating as both a mentee and mentor in various mentorship programs. She embodies the notion that a good leader should know how to lead and pay things forward, while simultaneously allowing herself to learn new things and listen to others.
When Ashley is not working or involved with the bar, she enjoys traveling with her husband, Greg (her high school sweetheart). Over the last few years, they have traveled to Alaska, Canada, Scotland, England, France, Dubai, and South Africa. When asked about her family, it’s no surprise why she is already advanced in her leadership skills – she’s the oldest of five children! A fun fact about Ashley is that when she was in high school and college, she was a competitive figure skater.
I have no doubt you will be seeing and hearing Ashley’s name more and more. In fact, she was just elected to the 2024 DAYL Board of Directors, and this organization is lucky to have her. For these reasons, and more she is this month’s One to Watch.
