Passion. Innovation. Leadership. Dedication. Justin Gobert exemplifies these qualities in all that he does, which makes him this month’s One to Watch.

Justin, a Texas A&M and SMU Law graduate, works as an attorney at HollyFrontier Corporation, a Fortune 150 corporation headquartered in Dallas, Texas. He focuses on litigation, employment issues, compliance, and intellectual property. Starting as an intern, Justin worked his way up in the company, and he now also serves as the corporate records manager.

He does much more than work as an attorney, Justin serves as a co-chair for the Young Employment and Labor Lawyers (YELL), a first-year committee of DAYL. Aida Wondwessen and Justin networked and heavily promoted this new committee to make it a huge success. He planned the group’s first CLE program and started what was initially the YELL kickball team. The team grew, and Justin now serves as the coordinator and captain of the DAYL kickball team, Ballable Hours.

Outside of his involvement with YELL, Justin proposed, coordinated, and advertised the Back to School Happy Hour that DAYL hosted for law students in September. This new event, which we hope returns each year, was a huge success, and over a hundred individuals came out – from experienced attorneys to first years at SMU, A&M, and UNT.

Justin also gives back to the community through his involvement with e-mentoring of Dallas ISD students, speaking to college students about law school and life as a lawyer, mentoring law students, and assisting with the coaching of the counseling and arbitration teams at SMU law.

In his spare time, Justin enjoys going to Texas Rangers and Dallas Stars games. He enjoys traveling and learning about new people and cultures, but he cannot stay away too long since he has Max, a rescue dog who helps him stay sane.
