At 6’7”, he is hard to miss in a room so keep an eye out for this month’s “One to Watch”: Miguel Ortiz!
Miguel Ortiz is an exceptional associate at Jackson Walker, LLP, whose integrity-first mindset, ability to place service over self, and commitment to excellence in all he does set him apart. As a father of three young boys, Miguel’s drive to make a positive impact extends beyond his legal career, making him an inspiring role model for all young lawyers.
During his service in the U.S. Air Force as an enlisted paralegal, Miguel pursued higher education at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where he earned a degree in Criminal Justice. His time in the military instilled in him a strong work ethic and a deep sense of duty, qualities that continue to shape his approach to the law.
Miguel’s passion for law led him to attend The University of Texas School of Law, where he co-founded the Texas Law Veterans Association (TLVA), participated in the Austin Bar Association’s Veterans Legal Advice Clinic, was a Dean’s Fellow (1L mentor), and played for the legendary intermural Legal Eagles football team. Through TLVA, Miguel provided vital support and resources to fellow veterans, fostering a sense of camaraderie while building a robust network within the legal community.
Currently, Miguel serves as an associate at Jackson Walker, LLP, where his colleagues and mentors recognize him for his exceptional legal acumen, attention to detail, and strategic thinking. His dedication to providing the highest standard of service to his clients makes him an invaluable asset to the firm.
Miguel recently co-authored DAYL substantive article “DAYL Pushed Its Membership Criteria Real Good: Those With Salt-N-Pepa Hair Can Participate” to highlight the ability of non-traditional students to be full contributors to DAYL.
Despite his demanding legal career, Miguel remains actively engaged in non-profit work, serving on the boards of Kids-U, the J.E.R. Chilton Family YMCA, and the newly established TLVA alumni network.
And if all of that were not impressive enough, Miguel is currently training for his first ultramarathon, which he will complete in September (after the DAYL Freedom Run, of course).
Miguel Ortiz’s remarkable achievements, combined with his commitment to the legal profession and his dedication to his family and community, make him a truly deserving recipient of the “One to Watch” recognition. The Dallas Association of Young Lawyers proudly celebrates Miguel’s accomplishments and looks forward to witnessing his continued success.
Please join us in congratulating Miguel Ortiz on this well-deserved honor!
