DAYL’s August One to Watch is Sydney Rae because, from the moment she joined DAYL, Sydney has made an immediate impact on our organization.
Born and raised in Australia, Sydney attended the University of Technology in Sydney, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of International Studies. Sydney’s legal journey began at Norton Rose Fulbright, where she worked in the Financial Restructuring and Insolvency practice group.
In 2021, fueled by a passion for furthering her career in cybersecurity law and data privacy law, Sydney decided to pursue an LL.M. degree at SMU. The city’s dynamic corporate legal scene and SMU’s distinguished reputation provided a compelling basis for Sydney to pursue a legal journey in the United States. While attending SMU, Sydney enjoyed working on cutting-edge issues related to international privacy regulations and marketing for the technology company LTK. Sydney’s international perspective and corporate background have made her a perfect fit to help major corporations navigate diverse privacy and security regulations on a global stage.
To balance out the taxing demands of a corporate law practice, Sydney enjoys spending time outdoors. She loves hiking, climbing, skiing, and improving her proficiency in French and German. She is currently focused on exploring all that Dallas has to offer, including finding the best coffee shop and brisket in town.
Sydney’s decision to join DAYL stemmed from her desire to expand her network to further integrate into the legal community. This past year, Sydney has played a pivotal role in DAYL’s Freedom Run and Environment committees, where her dedication and creative spirit have immediately impacted the success of both committees. In fact, she has played a pivotal role in Freedom Run’s marketing and merchandise teams, where she was heavily involved in all the design work for the 2023 race, including the race’s flyers, t-shirts, and Freedom Run website. She is one of those rare individuals who is not only incredibly talented as a lawyer but also incredibly talented as a graphic designer and artist. Sydney also organized an event for the DAYL Environmental Committee at Bonton Farms in South Dallas. DAYL members learned the practice of sustainable urban gardening and its positive impact on local communities.
As we celebrate Sydney Rae as DAYL’s August “One to Watch,” her positive attitude, creativity, organized nature, and dedication to her community epitomize all the values of DAYL and all the values of a truly great lawyer. Congratulations on your recognition Sydney and we are so grateful that you decided to stay and practice law in Dallas!
