Nicole Walker is this month’s DAYL One to Watch who leads from the front. With a follow-me approach, Nicole is a trusted counselor to both her clients faced with high-stakes business litigation and employment disputes, and to her colleagues navigating the courtroom.
Nicole is a native Texan, born and raised in Fort Worth. She attended Swarthmore College on a full academic scholarship, graduating with a double major in Sociology/Anthropology and Philosophy. After graduating, Nicole attended Georgetown Law in the nation’s capital, where she was on the Executive Boards of the Modern Critical Race Perspectives Journal and the largest Black Law Student Association chapter in the mid-Atlantic. Nicole is proud to be a first-generation college graduate and the first attorney in her family.
After law school, Nicole knew she wanted to get back to Texas. In 2020, Nicole joined the Texas Workforce Commission where she handled diverse employment issues, including unemployment benefits and wage issues. Nicole sought to broaden her skills, so she entered private practice and quickly built her courtroom expertise. She represents businesses of all sizes in commercial and employment litigation. Nicole also advises business clients on various labor and employment matters, including employee benefits, hiring and termination, compliance, and investigations. Since September 2023, Nicole has practiced at Platt Richmond PLLC where she leads her clients through all stages of business litigation.
Today, Nicole is an active member of the DAYL. She co-chairs the Judiciary Committee and is a member of the prestigious DAYL 2022 Leadership Class. Last year, Nicole was a part of the Judiciary Committee team that planned Dinner with the Judiciary, where they hosted a panel of Dallas-area state and federal judges commemorating the 30th anniversary of the prolific Dondi decision. Nicole’s favorite aspect of the Judiciary Committee is encouraging young lawyers to develop their relationships with the judiciary outside the courtroom. Nicole and the Judiciary Committee are currently planning its 2024 Social with the Judges, another annual event where young lawyers socialize with the Dallas-area judiciary, where her firm Platt Richmond PLLC is the presenting sponsor.
Nicole and her husband, James, live in the metroplex with their two Pomeranians. They can frequently be found at Mutts or other local doggy watering holes.
Nicole is a fearless advocate, a passionate DAYL member, and a service-driven leader. The DAYL is lucky to have her as a member, and her contributions and hard work make her One to Watch!
